Isla Mujeres


Magical town with a romantic and relaxed atmosphere, with a great natural wealth, Mayan vestiges and Caribbean culture. The history of Isla Mujeres goes back to anecdotes of Spanish pirates and buccaneers. It is said that the Spanish conquistador Francisco Hernández de Córdoba arrived on the island in 1517 expecting to find slaves to work in the mines of Cuba, but he only found a large number of statues of women in the Mayan temples of the island, which was devoted to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon, love and fertility; He was the one who gave him the name Isla Mujeres. 

 

This small island can be covered in golf cart, bicycle or motorcycle; it stands out due to the extraordinary mix of natural attractions it has; beautiful beaches, lagoons, reefs, mangroves, cenotes and dunes, as well as an exuberant medium and low jungle in the continental zone. The most frequented and highly recommended beaches are located at the northern tip of Isla Mujeres, where they are shallow, the waters are clear, calm and crystal clear, with beautiful coral reefs at a short distance from the beaches. The attractions on the island are many and varied; the Garrafón National Park, the Mayan temple.
